Highest stakes: The Mondale-ing of Obama
So Hillary wants Obama to concede and in return she will make him her running mate. There is a stench of desperation in that offer. This wouldn’t place him in the position of Cheney. To whatever extent anyone considers Cheney to be a strong vice president, Obama wouldn’t have his level of influence. Such an offer would make Obama irrelevant. He’d just be sitting in the Senate casting tie-breakers. He said no. And I agree with his decision. It has to be all or nothing. If she’s going to throw a condescending bone his way he should just let it fall to the ground. And we don’t need to get into the dynamic of having Bill in the White House with an Obama Vice Presidency.

Democrats in Civil War?
Newsmax.com is saying Obama and Clinton are in a “civil war”. While I find that to be a curious wording on their part, I think given our recent experience with presidential elections a hard fight is necessary. A false sense of security could cost the Democrats the election. Hillary wants the job. If she’s not willing to give up she shouldn’t.

Politicians and the Six and Half Dozen of Economics
Apparently Republicans see an Obama presidency as a return to “tax and spend” liberalism. How those of us who are working and keeping congress fed are supposed to see a difference between that and “borrow and raise prices” conservatism is what I’d like to know. The money is coming out one account or another regardless of who is in office. It does not matter whether a liberal is taking it through tax increases or a conservative is taking it through price increases. Either way the money is gone. It also doesn’t make any difference whether the tax saving is done by fancy corporate loopholes or shelters for individuals in lower tax brackets.

Vote and Switch Republicans: The other Obama voters
This is an old trick that I first heard about in 1988 when I was a Republican. We had people voting in the Democratic primary for whichever candidate they liked for the Presidential race. Then they’d switch and vote for George H. W. Bush in November of that year. Well they’re doing the same thing. Some don’t like Hillary. Others are voting for what they see as the lesser of two evils. I do not know if the statisticians are taking this into consideration. It’s the switch vote. I These aren’t people who are undecided until after Halloween who then decide one hour before stepping in front of the voting PDA.
Why am I saying that? I am simply pointing out a situation that might lead people to think that Obama has more momentum looking from convention to the general election. He only has those voters through the convention. After that they switch sides, even if their decision is to not vote at all. I am welcoming this because I am supporting Sen. Obama and I will take any help to that end, even if some of the helpers are going to stop pushing the Democratic jalopy to jump across the median and help the Republicans. Think of them as elephants in very tightly fitting donkey suits.
Yeah you too, Doug.

CNN’s Questionable Idea
On CNN Friday there was a suggestion that Clinton and Obama pick each other as VP depending on who wins. I may be oversimplifying it. And I see the strategy. While that trick worked for Reagan and Bush I don’t know if it could work for the Democrats. CNN is assuming that the people supporting the loser are necessarily going to wander away from the reservation in November. Some may do that but a lot more are going to support the party and others are going to vote against the opponent. Personally I don’t like relationships thrust upon me that are not of my making. I’d rather ask someone I wanted to work with me rather than spend 4 years making accommodations for someone I was stuck with.

My Decision ‘08
I am supporting Obama for the Democratic nomination. If he does not win at the convention I will most likely vote for Hillary even though I do not like her. I might consider the Libertarian candidate but we both know how that fares on election day. The Republicans have had 20 years since Carter. That’s way more than enough. I think the easiest Republican for either of them to beat would be Romney. That way the Bush Christians will have to decide which prejudice they are going to run with in November. Huckabee scares me. I have always liked McCain and find him to be the least annoying of the three that are now left. I think I could tolerate a McCain presidency if I had to. He’s not an idiot in my opinion.

Rezko: No reason not to support Obama
It looks like one of Obama’s long time supporters got arrested for some skulduggery.
So?
Tell me why I should back Hillary or the Republicans. Rezko is chump change compared to some of the things that have happened in the last 8 years. Show me one politician who doesn’t have at least one backer under investigation. There’s all kinds of dirty money, blood money, organized crime money and other ill-gotten cash floating around Washington. The important thing is what we do with it when it is identified. Obama has already donated $80K in Rezko funds to charity and has vowed to give up the rest. Let Rezko deal with the consequences of his actions and let’s move on. As long as Halliburton has a single U.S. Government contract, don’t talk to me about objectivity, corruption or anything else.

The Straw Imam
Okay.
Here’s what we’re going to do.
Starting Monday 7 Jan. 2008, we’re going to buy up all the grocery store tabloid companies. Then we’re going to have the staffs of those books pore over the internet and take all the copy of stuff said about Sen. Obama and edit each item into its own news story and just print that from now on.
I guarantee you there is enough misinformation out there about Barack Obama to keep all those tabloids in print for the next five years. Over the last few weeks I have read and/or heard of misdirection, ad hominem attacks, outright lies, red herrings, appeals to popularity, appeals to God, fear mongering, end of the world mongering, “threats” to not vote for the man, insinuations that it is bad luck to vote for someone who has the middle name of Hussein while we’re fighting Muslims, calling the man evil, calling the man the Devil, calling the man a son of Noah’s son Ham. Oh and uh, then there’s the racism.
You’ve created a straw man…an Obama evil twin…an Obama voodoo doll of words and you want to make everyone think this paranoid construct of yours is the real Barack Obama. This demonization that you’re doing comes out of your own inadequacy. You’re afraid. Your terrified. You can’t deal with the man so you threw together something that you can deal with. Well your game is transparent. People can see through it. But not only that. They can see through to what’s behind it. And it’s not pretty.
