If McCain and Palin were Pres. and VP right now I’d go to the Supreme Court and have them both legally declared dead and swear in Nancy Pelosi as POTUS. At least she isn’t caught up in this media shit cyclone of foolishness with millions of horny guys saying how they’d like to F Gov. Palin and all these issues surrounding her. I’m concerned about what’s going to happen Jan. 21 when Bush and Cheney exit the White House. I want the dollar to stabilize and the mortgage industry to get their heads out of their asses and stop raping the homeowners and the price of everything to quit going up so GD fast. The rest of this stuff is making us look like a nation tripping on crack and LSD and throwing a giant wobbly, as my Aussie friends would say.

Highest stakes: The Mondale-ing of Obama

So Hillary wants Obama to concede and in return she will make him her running mate. There is a stench of desperation in that offer. This wouldn’t place him in the position of Cheney. To whatever extent anyone considers Cheney to be a strong vice president, Obama wouldn’t have his level of influence. Such an offer would make Obama irrelevant. He’d just be sitting in the Senate casting tie-breakers. He said no. And I agree with his decision. It has to be all or nothing. If she’s going to throw a condescending bone his way he should just let it fall to the ground. And we don’t need to get into the dynamic of having Bill in the White House with an Obama Vice Presidency.

Democrats in Civil War?

Newsmax.com is saying Obama and Clinton are in a “civil war”. While I find that to be a curious wording on their part, I think given our recent experience with presidential elections a hard fight is necessary. A false sense of security could cost the Democrats the election. Hillary wants the job. If she’s not willing to give up she shouldn’t.

Politicians and the Six and Half Dozen of Economics

Apparently Republicans see an Obama presidency as a return to “tax and spend” liberalism. How those of us who are working and keeping congress fed are supposed to see a difference between that and “borrow and raise prices” conservatism is what I’d like to know. The money is coming out one account or another regardless of who is in office. It does not matter whether a liberal is taking it through tax increases or a conservative is taking it through price increases. Either way the money is gone. It also doesn’t make any difference whether the tax saving is done by fancy corporate loopholes or shelters for individuals in lower tax brackets.

Glen Maxey: A Blast from the Past

I’ve been following the Travis County race between incumbent Nelda Well Spears and challenger, former State Congressman Glen Maxey for the Democratic nomination for Tax Assessor/Collector. Maxey has been going over the top waging a negative campaign against Spears. Something felt familiar about the way the attacks were coming and I have finally figured out what it is. He’s behaving towards her the same way that Jim Mattox behaved towards Ann Richards in her campaign for the Democratic nomination for Governor in 1990. Ann had been an alcoholic years before and Mattox went on and on in speeches and commercials making it sound like she was having 8Balls delivered to the loading dock at the Travis County Tax Office. Well Ann won with a landslide in the primary and went on to defeat Republican candidte Clayton Williams in November.

Things are different now. The apparent “infractions” and associated accusations are not the same, but he’s grasping at every handful of mud he can and flinging it. He’s not really telling anyone why they should vote for him. He’s spending most of his time telling them why they shouldn’t vote for Ms. Spears. He’s been telling people that “she raised their taxes.” Wooo. TaxGate. It does not matter if her office set the tax rates or not. If they did Ms. Spears isn’t just walking into the office with a wild idea and ruling the office by executive order. Such a decision would have been researched and discussed with several people before it was ever approved. He’s being an unbelievable jerk about all this. He’s stepping down to get his foot back in the door of politics. Such people are usually unbecoming the offices they get elected to. I’m voting for Ms. Spears on March 4th. If the voters choose Mr. Maxey for the nominee I will vote for the Republican to stop him from getting the job.

Former Pres. Bush to Endorse McCain

Hopefully that will keep Gov. Huckabee from swaying too many Texas voters. I am not sure how it will affect Ron Paul’s standing. It seems that most of the voters who support Paul won’t much care what the former president says. Early voting starts on Tuesday here. The primary is another two weeks beyond that. I’m not going to do a switch-vote. I am more concerned with the outcome of the Democratic primary. I think McCain has enough momentum to take the lion’s share of Texas delegates. The Republican voters seem to be strongly weighted towards McCain being the eventual nominee.
