TiVo-ed for 3 years

In December of 2005, the SciFi Channel showed the miniseries The Triangle. It is a six-hour movie in 3 parts. I have had it saved on TiVo since then. I just never got around to watching it until now. I’ve watched and deleted all sorts of stuff since then. I’ve even thought about watching it from time to time and just kept telling myself that I’d get to it later. Well I’m almost done with the first segment. It stars Sam Neill, who is one of my favorite actors.

Star Trek Voyager: It’s Your Baby

From time to time when a man hears “It’s your baby,” the child is actually his. Other times, he’s being lied to. When two men are both told “It’s your baby,” the woman is lying to one, maybe both. In this Voyager ep, Maneuvers, the Cardassian woman Seska takes a sample of the Human Chakotay’s DNA and tries to create and implant a zygote impregnating herself. At the same time she’s banging Mage Cullah of the Kazon. She tells both men that they are the father. As it turns out in a later episode, the kid is half Kazon/half Cardassian.

I’ve been watching HBO’s TrueBlood series and I find it interesting that the same language gets applied when humans hook up with vampires as when people of one ethnic group has sex with another ethnic group. In fact the show ignores intra-species interracial relationships now that the booty calls are happening between species.

End of Racism? I don’t think so.

Several times during his terms in office, Ronald Reagan brought up an idea that if Earth were attacked by aliens we’d all drop our differences to stand together against the outsiders. There is no difference between that and people of one race accepting their son or daughter’s straight relationship with someone of another race thinking that at least their child isn’t gay.

Ignoring a prejudice because a deeper prejudice has surfaced does not constitute an improvement in your attitudes and beliefs.

An unnerving thing to wake up to

I guess TiVo had just finished recording one of my Egypt documentaries on the National Geographic Channel. Then the next show was one of the snake documentaries. Evidently they were in India chasing after king cobras. One of the guys gets bitten on the nose. So he cuts off his nose to keep from dying. And that was about the time I opened my eyes and realized what was on the tube. I know plastic surgeons are pretty good at doing reconstructive work. I had a hard enough time pricking my finger to get a freaking drop of blood out. I’d rather live, but I don’t know if I would freeze up at that moment. I have heard of other snakebite victims cutting off hands and such. Getting out of the damn jungle would help probably.

Hmmm…maybe I’ve been going to the wrong parties. It certainly gives new meaning to the “blow by blow.” Of course if you were having halftime sex you might have missed this commercial. Interesting that this is how she has to get your undivided attention when you ignored her for 3 hours.
