It’s never the same thing. Whether it’s a noise or excessive amounts or volumes of chatter, eventually I reach a stage where I have to put on my headphones and block out people around me. Sometimes it’s a particular phrase, goofy noises from a few desks over or offensive or uncomfortable subject matter of a conversation.
There are people who feel there should be a sense of “player etiquette” and that putting on headphones when others are present is rude. They say that we should not close ourselves off from others. However, this admonition does not take into account how obnoxious or annoying they might be behaving.
If there’s rudeness, it would have to be on both sides. While it may be rude to “close oneself off,” it is also rude to disturb others.
