Some might think this is OCD but I balance my check register every day. I’ve spent a lot in bank fees over the years and the only way to stay in the black is to stay on top of it. If you’re able to keep enough of a consistent padding of funds around to allow you the luxury of running a balance every three months, good for you. That doesn’t work for me. I don’t actually write many checks. I either use the check card or cash for most transactions. I probably write 2 paper checks a month on average. I’m trying to move to more cash transactions rather than pulling out the card but I’m not there quite yet. I keep the balance in my iPod using PocketMoney from the AppStore. Yes I’m one of those.

Make it a game to not spend any money today, and see how many days you can go.
