One-off Regret

According to stories in The Guardian and timesonline.co.uk, Bush regrets his legacy as a man who wanted war.

He says his language during the run-up to war in Iraq created the impression worldwide that he was anxious for war.

Ya think?

I have seen situations where something terrible happens and the people involved start taking responsibility, not for what happened, but for all sorts of peripheral crap. Expressing sorrow for all the wrong things is like cutting yourself and then cleaning unmolested skin near the wound without actually cleaning the wound. It allows you to feel like you’re doing something or have begun the healing process when you’re treating the wrong thing. It’s a dangerous form of denial. With a real cut you could end up losing part of your body because of the way you handled the treatment. With other things people use other people as enablers so that as the terrible thing cascades on to utter disaster they never have to take full responsibility for their part in what happened. If you want to know who are the President’s enablers just find the nearest neocon.
