Back in 1977 we saw both Star Wars and Close Encounters. I had two friends at that time who saw both pictures and didn’t like Close Encounters saying Star Wars was “so much better” I’m sorry, what? I thought it was an irrelevant comparison. They might as well have been comparing rice to cottage cheese. Plus such a statement is a complete betrayal of all true sci-fi buffs and blasphemy of the highest order. But we should probably keep things on a friendly basis. The only time I compare movies is when there are similar themes, if one is a sequel or prequel of the other, or if I see a clear ripoff of thematic material. There was none of that between those two movies.
